Dr. Jochen Tunkel wurde auf der Jahrestagung der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Implantologie (DGI) zum DGI-Spezialisten für Implantologie® ernannt. Hierzu musste er zehn aufwändige Implantologische Fälle präsentieren und zudem eine Prüfung absolvieren. Zur Prüfung anmelden kann man sich nur, wenn man durch Publikationen und Vorträge bereits gezeigt hat, dass man in besonderer Weise im Bereich der Implantologie tätig ist. Derzeit gibt es in Deutschland nur circa 50 DGI-Spezialisten für Implantologie®. Wir sind stolz, mit dieser Auszeichnung, unsere Expertise auf dem Gebiet der Implantologie ausweisen zu können.

Dr. Jochen Tunkel hat auf dem ITI World Symposium 2024 in Singapur den “Grand Prize ITI Academy Video Awards 2024” gewonnen. Der Preis war die Auszeichnung für das Beste Video, dass in der ITI Academy als Lehrvideo eingereicht worden ist. Der Titel dieses Lehrvideos war: “Rehabilitation of vertical defects in the esthetic area – is autologous bone irreplacable?”. Wir sehen das als große Ehre und Bestätigung unserer Arbeit, die wir sowohl in der zahnmedizinischen Lehre als auch für unsere Patienten durchführen.

Das Magazin “Focus” hat Dr. Jochen Tunkel erneut in die Ärzteliste aufgenommen. Beim Mediziner-Check über die Firma FactField wurden, in Zusammenarbeit mit wissenschaftlichen Fachgesellschaften, Fachärzte in ganz Deutschland nach ihren Einschätzungen befragt.

In vielen implantologischen Rehabilitationen ist ein Knochenaufbau notwendig, um ein ausreichendes Volumen des Alveolarfortsatzes für die Implantatplatzierung in der korrekten prothetischen Position zu schaffen. Obwohl dem Implantologen eine breite Palette an Optionen und Materialien zur Verfügung steht, wird die von Prof. Khoury entwickelte Schalentechnik zunehmend zum Standard im Knochenaufbau. Weiterentwicklungen der Technik zeigen sogar noch bessere Ergebnisse und ermöglichen es, mit geringerer Morbidität für den Patienten zu arbeiten. Das Konzept des augmentativen Relinings während der Implantation nach einer Schalentechnik-Augmentation und die Verwendung allogener Knochenplatten sind nur zwei dieser Entwicklungen. Ist autologer Knochen als Goldstandard unersetzlich, oder stehen uns mittlerweile gleichwertige Methoden zur Verfügung? Welche Wirkungen haben allogene Knochenersatzmaterialien, und wie sicher ist deren Anwendung? Gibt es bestimmte chirurgische Voraussetzungen, die beachtet werden müssen?

Der Kurs richtet sich an Zahnärzte, Parodontologen, Oralchirurgen sowie Mund-Kiefer-Gesichtschirurgen, die ihr Spektrum im Bereich der Implantologie, insbesondere im Bereich augmentativer Chirurgie und Weichgewebsmanagement, erweitern möchten. Mithilfe zahlreicher klinischer Bilder und Videodemonstrationen werden die Prinzipien, Methoden und Materialien der autologen und allogenen Schalentechnik praxisnah und reproduzierbar vermittelt. Praktische Übungen am Modell und am Schweinekiefer sollen die direkte Umsetzung und Handhabung erleichtern.

In many implant rehabilitations bone augmentation is necessary to provide sufficient volume of the alveolar process for implantat placement in the correct prosthetic position. Though the implantologist has a wide range of options and materials to choose from the shell technique developed by Prof Khoury becomes more and more the standard of bone augmentation. Further developments of the technique do even show better results and offer the opportunity to work with less morbidity for the patient. The concept of augmentative relining during implantation after shell technique augmentation and the allogeneic bone plates are just two of these developments. Is autologous bone irreplaceable as the gold standard or do we now have equivalent methods available? What do allogeneic bone replacement materials do and how safe is their usage? Are there certain surgical prerequisites that have to be followed?

The course is aimed at dentists, periodontologists, oral surgeons and oral and maxillofacial surgeons who want to expand their spectrum in the field of implantology, especially in the area of augmentative surgery and soft tissue management. With the help of numerous clinical images and video demonstrations, the principles, methods and materials for the autologous and allogeneic shell technique will be presented in a practical and reproducible manner. Practical exercises on the model and on the pig’s jaw should facilitate direct implementation and handling.

About the speaker

Dr. Jochen Tunkel completed five years of training in periodontology, graduating as a specialist in periodontology (German Fachzahnarzt). He then moved to Professor Khoury’s clinic, where he completed his training as an oral surgery specialist (German Fachzahnarzt) and Master of Oral Medicine in Implantology. During his 3-year postgraduate program he learned the shell technique in detail. During this time, his also focused on soft tissue management for large augmentations and implant-augmentative rehabilitation of periodontally severely compromised patients. After opening his own practice in 2007, he focused his work on the further development of the shell technique. To this end, he initially conducted work on augmentative relining with Dr. Luca de Stavola. Since 2018, he has been working intensively on the allogeneic shell technique and has helped it to achieve a breakthrough. In particular, he has focused on the basic principles of allogeneic and autologous shell techniques that improve the success of these methods.
